How to Earn Money by Creating Facebook Reels

Facebook Reels have emerged as one of the most engaging and popular forms of content on social media today. Covering a wide array of topics—from daily life and humor to travel tips and themed presentations—these short videos, ranging from a few seconds to 90 seconds, have captivated millions worldwide. Beyond mere entertainment, Facebook Reels offer an excellent opportunity for making money.

Earning Thousands from Reels

Zhoia Zaman, a fashion design student at a private university in Dhaka, has been creating Reels since 2019. After going viral with one of her videos, Zhoia began consistently sharing various Reels alongside her studies in 2021. With over 141,000 followers on Facebook, she shares about 30 Reels each month.

Zhoia shares, "I post videos about my lifestyle, travel, new food experiences, and my work. I earn an average of 80,000 to 120,000 Taka per month from Reels. In some months, I've earned as much as 230,000 Taka." Analysis of her content reveals that two out of every three videos receive over 1 million views, with some even surpassing 5 million views.

How to Monetize

Digital marketing analyst Ariful Islam explains that to earn money from Reels, one must adhere to the guidelines set by Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. Reels containing misinformation, offensive content, or controversial topics are not eligible for monetization. To qualify for Facebook video monetization, you need a Facebook profile or page with at least 5,000 followers. Additionally, the videos from your page must have accumulated a total of 60,000 minutes of watch time. Facebook frequently updates its features and policies, so staying informed is crucial. New avenues for earning through writing and photography are also being tested. More information can be found here.

Moreover, Facebook includes ads in Reels, providing creators with revenue from views. Many influencers also earn through partnerships with various brands.

Abid Hussain has been creating sports-related content on Facebook since 2023. He states, "I share videos on a page called On-Field, posting around 40 to 45 Reels monthly. My page has 976,000 followers, generating a monthly income of 2,000 to 3,000 dollars, with Reels contributing around 40,000 to 50,000 Taka."

Popular Reel Topics

Not all Reels garner the same level of popularity. Certain content types quickly amass millions of views, with entertainment and comedy being the most prevalent. Funny clips and humorous comments tend to go viral rapidly. Additionally, DIY videos showing how to create things are also very popular.

For instance, Reels featuring creative home decor using old items are well-received. Cooking recipes, home decoration tips, and beauty hacks are also in high demand. Beauty, fashion, and lifestyle-related Reels attract significant attention, particularly makeup tutorials and home decor tips. Travel and adventure-themed Reels are equally popular.

Influencer Shanaya Shahnaz, who studied digital marketing in Malaysia, began sharing Reels in 2020 and has been working as a professional video influencer since 2022. She shares fashion-related content on her Instagram account and explains, "I conduct various fashion experiments and earn between 3,000 to 4,000 dollars monthly from my Reels. Those interested in new fashion trends often watch my videos."

Shanaya emphasizes how she showcases different ways to style fabrics. "I also share the challenges faced in making videos, so viewers can appreciate the effort behind the final product. My Reels typically get more views than my Instagram posts. Some content gets quick views, while others take time to gain traction."

Ultimately, she notes, "I don't focus too much on views. What matters more is connecting with my audience and sharing something new. I'm working with various brands to create diverse content, promoting the concept of sustainable fashion. I want my audience to see how the same clothes can be styled differently and that recycling old clothes can be fashionable. I have several videos where I wear my mother's or grandmother's sarees, which people love to watch."
